- Attempted-rape victim pens viral open letter to Davao City mayor
- She calls him uncouth, calls his rape joke tasteless and unforgivable
- However, she says she’ll still vote for him because of his achievements and track record
MANILA, Philippines – Despite finding Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s rape joke “utterly tasteless” and “utterly bad”, one woman who described herself as an attempted-rape victim said she will be voting for the mayor because of all the good things he has done.
On her Facebook, Pika Yonzon — who described Duterte as uncouth and someone who needs grooming — listed down his accomplishments in Davao City as her reason for sticking to him.
She noted how Duterte implemented anti-discrimination ordinances to protect the LGBT community, exchanged himself for a woman and a child during a hostage situation, set up pro-women programs, reformed the local police, and supported rehabilitation facilities for juvenile drug users and treatment centers for children with cancer.
She also noted how Duterte declined numerous accolades because he felt he was just doing his job and how he is deeply loved by the people of Davao City.
“Because I am impressed with your humility. Declining awards for your accomplishments because you felt you were just simply doing your job…Because you have Davao City. No matter how detractors try to downplay the magnificent evidence of your capability, you have the Davaoeños who speak fondly of you. From Taxi drivers, market vendors, to professors and doctors,” she wrote.
Ending her post, Yonzon — who also noted that the people’s money will be safe with Duterte — said she will vote for Duterte because his “actions speak louder” than his words.
“I will still vote for you. Because despite your unforgivable tasteless joke, YOUR ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER,” she wrote.
