Treated like a living saint?
This is the most common comment on the viral video which showed how eager the supporters of presidentiable Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte were in trying to catch the face towels that he was throwing to the crowds during a campaign. The odd thing here, however, is that the towels being given away were first used by the presidentiable to wipe his sweat.
“Parang Black Nazarene nga or Santo [He’s like the Black Nazarene, or a saint],” commented one Facebook user K.K. who got to watch the clip.
The video was uploaded by a certain Noel Celis and had the caption: Face towel ni Presidential candidate at Davao Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte [sic].
“Don’t know why he did that. But, if you’re familiar with Black Nazarene religious festival here, people would wipe their towels on Jesus Christ’s statue, believing the statue is miraculous,” Celis himself commented on the video.
A number of people also commented on the post which has gained more than 1.1 million views and over 13,300 shares as of posting.
“Winner to Noel. Tawang-tawa ‘ko [This video made me laugh so much],” said F. Mangosing.
“Okay, but he is not the Jesus! madness really!” P. Paranjpe laments.
“My goodness these people are fanatics!” wrote C. Espiritu.
While he is currently the leading presidential candidate as per published surveys, Duterte is now facing a lot of controversies which his camp profess is expected as the election draws nearer and nearer.
