- Davao City mayor tells public he’s their last card for a better Philippines
- He calls on them to vote for him if they do not want a corrupt or weak president
- He also again outlines his programs, vows to be tough in implementing the law
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Describing himself as the last hope for a better Philippines, presidential bet Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte called on voters in Albay province and the public in general to vote for him if they want real change in the country.
“What do you want to happen in this country? I don’t agree with the NPA (New People’s Army)’s armed struggle and the BBL (Bangsamoro Basic Law). I am your last card in the Philippines, if you don’t want a corrupt future president and a weakling,” Rappler quoted him as saying.
The mayor has often said he is a socialist and sympathizes with the Left sans the armed struggle. In his recent visit to the headquarters of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, he also aired his support for the BBL to be incorporated in the federal system of government he’ll implement under his administration.
As always, Duterte bared his platform which will focus on eliminating crime and corruption in the government.
In particular, the mayor reiterated his disdain for illegal drugs and said he will order law enforcers to eliminate drug pushers and promised to back them up.
“If I’m elected into the presidency, I will order the PNP and AFP to wipe out drugs and kill those carrying it. I will take full responsibility if an investigating body will go after you,” he said. “We have produced a fractured generation of Filipinos because of drugs. Shabu shrinks the brain of the persons who used it, therefore rehabilitation is no longer our option but to kill it. Even my sons, if they commit or use drugs, I will kill them.”
