- A dog which has been a fire victim is now a firefighter
- The dog named Jake was rescued by a local firefighter, William Lindler
- Jake became the fire department’s mascot first
A puppy has grown from being victim into being a hero. Jake, a pit bull which was rescued amid a fire, is now an official firefighter.
In an article written by Julija Televiciute of Bored Panda, it was disclosed that Jake was just few weeks old when he was saved by a local firefighter, William Lindler, inside a burning shed. The puppy suffered burns to 75 percent of his body, including his paw pads.
Because they cannot afford to pay for his medications, his owners abandoned him at the veterinary. Luckily, the same firefighter who saved him decided to adopt him when he heard the news.
With the care given by people at the Hanahan Fire Department, Jake recovered quickly.
He became the official mascot of the fire department and now goes to schools to help kids learn about fire safety and what to do on emergencies. He even has his own badge.
“I would honestly like to get him certified to be a therapy dog for burned children,” said Lindler. “I would like for them to know that no matter how bad it is, this little guy beat the odds being burned as bad as he was at four weeks old and he’s still beautiful.”
The story of Jake was discovered by social media users.
“I just found out about Jake and read his story. It got really dusty in here. You go, Jake! You’re doing great work. You and your daddy and his colleagues. God bless you all!” wrote J. Ture.
“We just read your amazing story in Brighton England what a great boy and such a wonderful story,” posted G. Devito

“Truly a testimony and a mascot for all Pit Bulls, that if in the right care and raised with love and affection, that they are not an aggressive breed. His scars are going to help so many people, especially children, that they can move forward no matter what. Bless you Jake,” commented R. Jenkins.
