- Former Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay will testify against the cases filed against him
- The ex-Mayor has already filed a bail worth P200,000 for graft and falsification charges
- Binay’s lawyer says that they will prove that the accusations thrown against his client and his companions have no basis
Dismissed Makati City Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay, Jr. will testify before the Sandiganbayan to defend himself in the charges filed against him in connection with the anomalous construction of Makati City Hall Building II; his legal counsel said.
In an article written by Elizabeth Marco for GMA News Online, it was disclosed that Atty. Claro Certeza, the lawyer of Junjun Binay, said that the former mayor will try his best to prove that the accusations thrown against him, and even against his father, Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay, have no basis.
“Aba’y oo, magte-testify si Mayor Junjun [Yes, Mayor Junjun will testify],” Certeza said.
He will face proper forum like this court, and not anywhere else that is like a marketplace wherein accusations are always thrown without being responsible for what we say].”
Last month, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, through Prosecution Officer Anna Isabel Aurellano, held the son of Vice President Binay and 22 other individuals liable for the cases of graft and falsification of public documents in line with the irregularities found in the construction of the Makati City Hall Building II that was worth P2.3 billion.
However, Binay’s camp have reacted on the timing of the former mayor’s indictment; saying they are suspicious of the real agenda of government authorities.
“The timing is suspicious because it comes at a time when the ratings of Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is running for President, are rising,” Certeza said.
The lawyer further noted that his team has filed a motion for reconsideration on the findings of probable cause against his client for a long time, but he says that the ombudsman seems to have not actually sat on the matter.
