- Aiza Seguerra slams Pacquiao over the latters’ anti-gay couple statement
- The singer-actress calls Pacquiao an ignorant and a ‘bigoted hypocrite’
- She also urges voters to be more careful in choosing candidates in the coming election
MANILA, Philippines – Actress-singer Aiza Seguerra had some choice words for Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao after the latter aired his views on same-sex marriage.
In an Instagram post on Monday, February 15, Seguerra slams Pacman over his controversial statement during an interview saying same-sex couples are worse than animals.
“You might’ve done our country proud but with your statement, you just showed the whole country why we shouldn’t vote for you. And yes, I think you are an ignorant, bigoted hypocrite. You made me lose all respect that I had for you, Mr. Pacquiao,” Seguerra wrote on her Instagram account.
Pacquiao, a self-proclaimed renewed Christian, earned the ire of many celebrities, including Seguerra, for his supposed ‘self-righteousness’ by describing same-sex relationships as against God’s teaching.
“Common sense lang. Makakakita ka ba ng any animals na lalaki sa lalakI, babae sa babae? Mas mabuti pa yung hayop. Marunong kumilala kung lalaki, lalaki, o babae, babae,” the boxing champion was quoted as saying during an interview on TV 5’s “Balitang Pilipino”.
[It’s only common sense, have you seen any animals engaged in a male to male, female to femal relations? The animals are much better off then. At least they can distinguish a male or a female.]
Pacquiao went further by adding: “Kung lalaki sa lalaki, babae sa babae, eh mas masahol pa sa hayop ang tao.” [If its male to male, or female to female, then humans are worse than animals.]
Pacman is running for senator under Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) slate this coming May election.
But Seguerra said voters should be more careful now about choosing the candidates, apparently in reference to Pacquiao.
“Ang kailangan ng bansang ito ay mga taong nag-iisip. Utang na loob, kilalanin ninyo ang iboboto ninyo,” added Seguerra who has come out as a lesbian and is married to actress Liza Dino. [What the country needs is people who thinks. Please know those who you would vote for.]
