- Davao City mayor hits back at Roxas after the latter again questioned his track record
- He calls him a failure, says he couldn’t solve country’s drug problem even if he had 20 years
- He also questions why Roxas wasn’t able to solve the issue when he was still DILG chief
MANILA, Philippines – For again questioning his rival’s track record, Mar Roxas earned another dressing down from Digong.
Reacting to his erstwhile friend’s claim that illegal drugs are still rampant in Davao City, a fuming Rodrigo Duterte asked why Roxas wasn’t able to do anything about the problem when he was still the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary and had control of the country’s police force.
“Why look at Davao only? Why not your hometown, Capiz? Why not Manila? 90 percent is contaminated. Now, it’s 92 percent contaminated, and the whole of the Philippines as well. You were the top honcho of the police. What did you do?” Rappler quoted him as saying.
While conceding that illegal drugs pop up in Davao City from time to time, Duterte said Roxas would never be able to solve the drug trafficking even if he was given 20 years to do it.
“He’s a failed politician. He can never do it. Give him 20 years and he still won’t be able to hack it,” he said.
Earlier, Roxas insisted Davao City still had a thriving illegal drug trade and even offered to accompany reporters and show them the places where they are still being sold.
The mayor’s camp have called his remarks pathetic and irresponsible.
“Mar is showing he is not fit to be the leader of our country. He did not only exhibit irresponsible citizenship by not reporting to authorities where drugs are being peddled, he has, in fact, become an accomplice in protecting drug lords and drug pushers,” Duterte spokesman Peter Laviña said.
