Devotees of the Nazarene and curious citizens are flocking a coconut tree in Barangay Bobon 1st, Camiling, Tarlac after the said tree bore a fruit which bears an alleged image of the Nazarene.
A resident of the barangay, Carmelita Guillermo, said that she visits the tree every night to pray for her health.
She said, “”Dasal namin yung maayos na kalusugan at sana maayos kami dito” [“We pray for good health and for everything to be alright here.”].
Another resident, Crispin Martin, was the first to see the image.
According to him, “Inaalis ko, ayaw namang maalis tapos tinawag ko ‘yung anak ko para tingnan” (“I tried to pick it but it can’t be picked off so I called my son to take a look at it”).
Today, devotees of the Nazarene and curious citizens are flocking the tree. The family has opened their household for the devotees.
Incidents of people seeing sacred or religious images on random images are not new. In fact, this has come to be referred to as pareidolia, a psychological phenomenon that causes people to see patterns in random images or data/ stimulus.
Whether the sacredness of this supposed image of the Nazarene will be recognized by Catholic Church is something that will take some more time.
