“Miss Universe 2015” Pia Wurtzbach recently made an appearance as a guest in the late-night talk show “Tonight With Boy Abunda.” In said show, the beauty queen was asked why she wants a gay child in the future. She explained:
“Not to say na hindi ka aalagaan kung straight iyong anak mo, pero based on my experience, iba mag-alaga iyong beki and gusto kong ma-experience iyong mayroon [akong anak na] excited na bihisan ako, ayusan ako, alagaan ako—parang magiging best friend ko… Nai-imagine ko na iyong anak ko magiging best friend ko beki siya.”
However, despite her good words, some of the members of the LGBT community were offended by her statement. One netizen from Twitter wrote:
“Pia Wurtzbach, another straight girl treating gay men as accessories… ok.”
Another defended the beauty queen from her bashers, but with the words:
“This another episode of bashing against her views on having a gay child is just counterproductive. Pia is not perfect okay, and maybe instead of preaching from your pedestal why don’t you guys enlighten her?”
The “Miss Universe” titleholder then expressed on her official site that she was shocked to find out that her statement was offensive. She wrote a series of tweets to explain her side.
“Shocked to see some comments online about what I said at TWBA. Please don’t misinterpret what I said. I have high regards for the LGBT. It was just a fun interview, guys! Meant no disrespect at all. Mahal ko kayo! Happy holidays everyone! #GoodVibesLang”
In another post, she said:
“Na-misinterpret lang po. Meant no malice at all. I didnt mean to offend anyone. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.”
Pia then wrote in her last status that she learned her lesson—to “always, always be cautious with what you say!”
