Being a pilot is difficult since you have to spend lots of time away from your family and loved ones. In fact, one pilot named Juan Paulo Fermin has spent about “16 Christmases” away from his family.
According to The Filipino Times, Fermin has dreams of flying his own parents in an airplane. However, he hasn’t been able to do that since his job requires him to be on duty even on holidays.
The report cited:
“Fermin, who celebrated ’16 Christmases’ miles away from his parents, was finally able to fulfill that dream when he suddenly showed up on the same flight where his parents were onboard. It was the first time he had ever flown them.”
The pilot shared the moment on his Facebook account, where his video has reached 816,000 views, 28,000 likes and reactions, and around 5,719 shares from the online community.
An excerpt of his caption reads:
“Today, after 16 Christmases apart – and unknown to my parents, I was actually part of the crew that was flying them home for Christmas.”
“It’s been a wonderful year for me – a year of dreams turning into reality, and this is definitely the cherry on top. Thank you, Philippine Airlines, for this amazing opportunity.”
Juan Paulo Fermin was seen as he walked down the aisle of the plane with a bouquet of roses in his hand. He approached his mother, who was completely unaware that he was on duty.
She exclaimed, “Hala! Anak ko!” when she saw Fermin. They hugged each other for a loving moment. It was evident that Fermin really wanted to be with his parents despite the business of his schedule.
The source cited that Philippine Airlines shared the heartwarming video of their pilot and captioned it with the following (as quoted by the report):
“Nothing warms our hearts more than reuniting families so that they can spend the holidays with the people they love the most.”

It’s interesting how dreams take form – like when a sick loved one prompts a young man to become a doctor, or being with kids who haven’t had the chance to read and write inspires one to teach; as a child, to me it was pretty simple: I wanted to fly my parents home. Today, after 16 Christmases apart – and unknown to my parents, I was actually part of the crew that was flying them home for Christmas. It’s been a wonderful year for me – a year of dreams turning into reality, and this is definitely the cherry on top. Thank you, Philippine Airlines, for this amazing opportunity. Have a merry Christmas, everyone.
