Mayor Sara Duterte distributes Christmas bonuses to traffic enforcers, et. al. in Davao

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte brought Christmas early to traffic enforcers, street sweepers, garbage collectors, members of Bantay Dagat, and Canal Brigade on Friday.

In the city Christmas party held at the Davao City Recreation Center, Sara Duterte led the distribution of Christmas gift packs and Php2,000-peso bonuses to thousands of city workers.

Inday Sara Duterte’s promise is that alongside the aforementioned gifts, street workers like enforcers and sweepers are to receive an extra “bonus.”

“Mao ni ang mga employees sa city government nga lisod kaayo ang trabaho. Manglimpyo ug kanal, magkuha og basura. Magpainit, magpaulan atong mga enforcers. So duna ta’y gamay nga gihatag nga extra para sa ilahang Pasko, on top sa unsay madawat nila sa city government of Davao,” said the Presidential daughter, quoted in a report by ABS-CBN.

[They are the city government employees whose jobs are really hard. They clean canals, and collect garbage. They endure extreme hot and rainy weather. So we have a small “extra” to give to them this Christmas, aside from the gifts they received.]

However, Mayor Sara Duterte chooses to keep the amount of this “bonus” a secret.

Still, a report by ABS-CBN News accounted for the extra morale boost because of Sara Duterte’s commendation of their hard work. Jerry Coronica, a canal drainage department crew member, says he feels proud over his modest but important job.

“Wala namo gikaulaw among trabaho. Gipangmalaki namo bisan naa mi sa drainage,” he said

[We’re not ashamed of our job. We’re actually very proud, ever if we’re in the drainage department.]

Netizens were all-praises to the mayor for this move:

“Focusing on truly caring/truly loving (This does not mean you will not think and this does not mean you will not take action. In fact, one will employ all those and strive to do even better.) is the answer that leads to a better person, better society, better nation, better world, and Eternity. God truly exists,” said one comment.

Another netizen said, “You are so great as a Mayor may your goodness will be sspread around and others mayors will do the same you are a good example to be followed.God bless you more Inday Sara”

“Well deserved bonuses to the bottom rung of the municipal ladder,” said another.
