One Filipina and a German national defended President Rodrigo Duterte during the Human Rights International Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland after the President was roasted for his murderous ways on dealing with the country's drug and criminal problems.
The two debated with human rights experts including United Nations Rapporteur Dr. Agnes Callamard regarding the extra-judicial killings.
This Filipina who flew to Switzerland from Germany came to Duterte's rescue and defended his case. She explained that EJKs have already been rampant even before the current President took over.
“If you go to the Philippines .. what’s happening now in the Philippines.. every family has a drug problem, including my Family..” she said.
She encouraged the United Nations to visit her country and help build rehabilitation centers for drug addicts.
“We urge all of you to help us with this problem..you come to us.. help us with this help problem.. build rehabilitation centers for this people” she said.
“If you are concern with the people..you go to the Philippines and help us.. build rehabilitation centers and stop meddling with the political affairs of the Philippines because the case is in court and you need to respect the law of the Philippines,” she added.
Dr. Callamard responded by asking the Filipina to also urge her government to allow them to lay out alternative solutions that don't end in death and bloodbath.
“Please convince your government to listen to us, invite us, we will present the alternatives including to the public and then you can decide whether they are better ways and I can assure you there are more effective ways to tackled drug trafficking and drug addictions which do not involve this bloody-thirsty.. bloodthirsty impunity which is really poisoning the society,” Dr. Callamard told the Filipina.
Moments later, a German national joined the argument and accused Dr. Callamard of tagging Duterte as a murderer. He also stressed that experts don't know much about the real situation in the Philippines.
“What you’re showing is not about human rights, but about ousting Duterte,” Mr. Ulf told Dr. Callamard.
After the forum, a Duterte support group in Europe named "DDS Geneva" launched an information campaign that aims to explain to the people the current situation in the Philippines.
