Kiara Giel Gregorio was named the new Miss Philippines Earth 2016 after Imelda Schweighart relinquished her crown on Monday.
Born in Cabanatuan to Pinoy parents, Gregorio moved to London when she was 10 years old.
Currently studying law, she is expected to take over Schweighart’s Miss Earth responsibilities.
Gregorio is no stranger to environmentalism, as she has been a proponent of the “One with the Earth” Campaign, which seeks to educate people about environmental issues and give them the necessary skills for dealing with them.
“Defeating climate change is an ambitious feat; however, I’ve always believed that the spirit of environmentalism and respect for Mother Earth is alive in all of us regardless of who we are and what we have,” Gregorio said.
Gregorio has worked as a ramp model in London, wearing designs by her fellow Filipinos.
In 2015, Gregorio was a finalist in Miss World Philippines and won the Mutya ng Pilipinas United Kingdom.
She was also crowned Miss Philippines Air in London last June.
