“We are gravely disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision to bury a corrupt and ruthless dictator in the LNMB (Libingan ng mga Bayani).”
This is the statement of Sen. Bam Aquino on Tuesday, as he expressed his disappointment over the approval made by the Supreme Court regarding the hero’s burial for late-President Ferdinand Marcos, whom he described as a “corrupt and ruthless dictator.”
Senator Aquino said that he respects the result of the Supreme Court voting with 9-5 and one inhibition but he sympathizes with the thousand Martial Law victims.
He claimed that the Marcos regime brought the “darkest years in the Philippine history.”
Senator Aquino is the nephew of late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. who is one of the prominent opposition leaders during the period of Martial Law. In connection to this, former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is his cousin.
The lawmaker left a reminder for all the Filipino people:
“With this decision, we need to be even more vigilant that the mistakes of the past are not repeated. Never again”
