Former President Ferdinand Marcos can now be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani as the Supreme Court gives its approval by a vote of 9-5.
On Tuesday, November 8, the Supreme Court dismissed all filed petitions prohibiting Marcos a hero’s burial.
Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes was not included on the total number of justices who voted making it 14. Reyes was Duterte’s fraternity brother at the San Beda College of Law he is the administrator of Duterte’s oath-taking. On the other hand, he also became a former lawyer of the Aquino family.
Associate Justices Arturo Brion, Presbitero Velasco Jr, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Mariano del Castillo, Jose Perez, Teresita de Castro, Jose Mendoza, and Estela Perlas-Bernabe were in favor of giving Marcos a hero’s burial.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, together with Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, and Associate Justices Marvic Leonen, Francis Jardeleza, and Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa refused.
