France has recently seen a great number of robberies, with the most high-profile case being one involving Kim Kardashian.
Another incident happened, but these men couldn’t have picked a worse time to rob a McDonald’s.
No amount of planning could have prepared two French men in their early 20s who attempted to rob a McDonald’s in eastern France.
40 plus customers were chomping away on their burgers on Sunday evening in the fast food restaurant when the two robbers stormed in, fired a shotgun blast into the air, threatened the guests and ordered the staff to open the cash registers, which contained just under $ 2,300 in cash.
What they didn’t know was that there was an entire special operations team that happened to be eating lunch inside the restaurant, dressed in civilian clothing.
11 members of the French special forces, Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, or GIGN, the anti-terrorism equivalent of the British SAS, were not happy to have their meal of Big Macs and French fries disturbed by two no-good criminals.
The undercover Special Forces members kept their cool and waited until one of the robbers tripped on his way out the door. Then, they tackled him. The other robber aimed his gun at two of the GIGN members and refused to lower his weapon when ordered, so they shot him in the stomach.
The soldiers held the robbers at the restaurant until the police could arrive and take control of the scene.
Both gunmen had to be treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital before they could be held in custody. Talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
