Last Monday, Sen. Leila de Lima asked for legal protection from the Supreme Court as she filed habeas data against the government’s alleged aim to link her to the New Bilibid Prison illegal drug trade.
De Lima asked the Supreme Court to provide security for her personal information through her filed petition for habeas data.
Habeas data secures a person’s personal information if there is a threat to his or her life and liberty.
De Lima even claimed that she is suing Rodrigo Duterte and not the President of the Philippines. It is because of Duterte’s personal attack against her which she claimed is not related to his duties of being the highest leader of the country.
Moreover, De Lima also accused Duterte of abusing his executive power just to punish her in favor of his personal interests and of those people who helped him win the election.
Duterte accused De Lima of having an affair with his former driver who is also the alleged money collector of the drug lords detained at the national penitentiary.
