Former Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Rafel Alunan III found it ridiculous that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales gave the thumbs up for the investigation of PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for accepting expensive gifts from Senator Manny Pacquiao.
In a Facebook post, Alunan questioned the move for a probe on the police chief, claiming that it was obviously a case of bias and unfair treatment. He also stated that there was gender bias and referred to the alleged involvement of Senator Leila De Lima in narco-politics.
“Yung mamang pulis na kailangang turuan ng propriety to avoid conflict of interest and allegations of graft and corruption ay iimbestigahan. Yung babae na akusada bilang narco-politician ay hindi. Mas mabigat na kasalanan yan!,” Alunan wrote.
Meanwhile, an apparently surprised Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa yesterday responded “So it was wrong? OK, then investigate me,” when he learned that the Office of the Ombudsman was starting its investigation on his sponsored trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 5.
Probers could check if there were violations of Presidential Decree No. 46, which punishes public officials for receiving gifts “on any occasion,” as well as Republic Act No. 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
Senator Pacquiao said in an interview with reporters, “Alam mo kami mga Bisaya, okay lang yan ilibre kaysa gumawa ng kalokohan,”
