Despite the refusal of the Marcos family to own up the alleged crimes of the late dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, and the protests of the Martial Law victims against the hero’s burial of the former President in the ‘Libingan ng Mga Bayani”, Enrile stated that all President should be buried in the said cemetery.
“According to the law, all presidents have the right to be buried to that place,” he said in an Interview.
He was Justice Secretary and then Defense Minister during the Marcos Administration. That was until he also joined the revolt in EDSA People Power 1.
“To be entitled to be buried in that particular piece of land, you don’t have to die in battle because there are many recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor who are still living today,”he said.
“The trouble in this country is we hate other people. We do not know how to forgive people,” he said. “Tama na itong [Stop this] Marcos hating. It will destroy the innards and the conscience, and the emotions of this country. You cannot erase Marcos in the history of this country.”he added.
