PAGASA’s 2 p.m. bulletin on today urgently states that Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 5 has just been raised over the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela due to “Lawin” intensifying into a supertyphoon. According to the weather bureau, Lawin’s maximum sustained winds have increased from 225 kph to 315 kph.
At around 1 pm, the center of supertyphoon ‘Lawin’ was reported to be located 300 kilometers east of Casuguran, Aurora.
Last May of 2015, the rising number of damaging tropical cyclones urged PAGASA to appoint a revised public storm warning system. Signal number 5 is expected to bring very heavy to widespread damage upon the impact of the cyclone’s wind.

-Ilocos Sur
-Kalinga
-Mountain Province
