Many people have been criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte, not just inside the country, but internationally, as well. His detractors claim that he wasn’t charming and gentle, which should be expected from a statesman. He cusses a lot and is constantly tactless. Although some can tolerate this, many have been calling him out for it, and advised him to act in a manner more befitting of a statesman. However, in a recent speech by the controversial president, he promised not to cuss anymore, sharing that God talked to him during a plane ride.
“I was looking at the skies as I was coming over here. And I… everybody was asleep snoring. A voice said that you know ‘If you don’t stop (inaudible), I will bring this plane down now.’ And I said, who is this? Of course, it’s God. Oh, OK. So, I promised God not to express slang, cuss words,” he said.
“You guys hear me right always because a promise to God is a promise to the Filipino people,”
He added that he would no longer badmouth previous subjects of his cussing, such as the United States, the European Union, and Senator Leila De Lima.
Despite not cussing in the conference, some people just can’t wrap their heads around the idea of God talking to Duterte. Former actress Cynthia Patag once again went viral after she shared the article about the abovementioned event and captioned it with:
“When we talk to God, it is prayer.
When God talks to us, it is schizophrenia.”
