All girls would relate to that ‘time of the month‘ where they get these crazy hormones and the dreaded red days, not to mention the cramps and pains with it.
But have you ever wonder what causes this intense pains that some girls would need to take medication or some just pass out? This dilemma is called dysmenorrhea. The pain usually varies from one woman to another. But what causes this dysmenorrhea?
The most common cause of pain is due to the production of ‘prostaglandins‘. These are substances that are produced by the cells in the uterus every time an egg is not fertilized. The prostaglandins makes the uterus muscles contract to shed the lining of the uterus that was produced for a supposed pregnancy. But excessive production of this, also causes excessive pain, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Aside from that, there are various of reasons why women experience pain during menstrual cycle.
