Joint forces from the local police of Albuera, Leyte and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) recovered at least 11 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu inside the ancestral home of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa.
Armed with a search warrant, the raiding team swooped down on the house located in Sitio Tinago Dos, Barangay Benoldo on Wednesday, August 10, around 5 a.m.
Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, chief of the Albuera police, said the information that several kilograms of the illegal substance are being stored inside the property came from one of Mayor Espinosa’s men who were arrested during earlier police operations. He said the recovered shabu has an estimated street value of P88 million.
Espinido shared that the raided house was the same house where the Regional Public Safety Battalion had an encounter with the mayor’s henchmen last week that resulted in the killing of six people and the recovery of high-powered firearms.
Aside from the illegal drugs, the police team found bomb-making components and ingredients such as ammonium nitrate, blasting caps, firing wires and black powder as well as 12 sets camouflage police uniforms inside the house.
Espenido said they will conduct more raids in several properties of the mayor as soon as they get search warrants; adding they obtained fresh information from the arrested men that several high-powered firearms are stored in one of the mayor’s houses.
As mentioned in Sun Star, the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed cases in relation to illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms against the Espinosa and his son Kerwin, who remains at large.
