- Pia Wurztbach defended Jessy Mendiola over body-shaming remarks
- “Confident Filipinas should be celebrated, not condemned” – Pia Wurtzbach
- This is the second time Wurtzbach defended Mendiola on social media
Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurzbach has once again come to the defense of Jessy Mendiola.
Ever since Mendiola was named the ‘FHM Sexiest Woman’ for this year, a lot of people took to social media to leave negative comments and body-shaming remarks abut her. She was described as “fat” by some people and called undeserving of being “the sexiest woman” by others.
Wurtzbach took to social media to urge the people to stop body-shaming and bullying the 23-year-old Kapamilya star.
She wrote on her Twitter account on Tuesday, August 2: “Seriously though, enough w/ the Jessy Mendiola hate. Confident Filipinas should be celebrated, not condemned. #NoToBodyShaming #NoToBullying”
The beauty previously defended Mendiola after the latter got bashed over her ‘Talo ko pa si Pia’ statement.
Mendiola came under fire from bashers when a video of her acceptance speech during the victory party of FHM Philippines on July 26, at the Valkyrie on Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, became viral.
She told the crowd: “I think that’s what people like about me. I have a different type of body from the usual sexy and I am here to prove that I can be sexy too and that’s where my strength is coming from.
Talo ko pa si Pia Wurtzbach, ‘di ba? Nakakaloka iyong ganito. Sobrang overwhelming (I even defeated Pia Wurtzbach, right? This is crazy. It’s very overwhelming. Kung siya (If she’s) confidently beautiful with a heart, ako (I’m) sexy. So, confidently sexy with a heart.”
Wurtzbach came in the 16th place in the online poll conducted by FHM Philippines.
On her Twitter account, Wurtzbach defended Mendiola by saying: “What I saw was a girl who was just really ecstatic to be given that recognition. Nothing wrong with that. Congratulations, Jessy!”
