MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald ”Bato” dela Rosa admitted that one of the alleged “narco-officials” is his close friend.
The man, who was identified as Datu Montawal Vice Mayor Ohto Montawal, claimed that he was the PNP chief’s best friend, upon his surrender at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Monday, August 8.
According to an article published by ABS-CBN News, Montawal said that just like the other alleged ‘narco-officials’ who surrendered at Camp Crame, he wanted to clear his name after being included in the long list of names of politicians, judges, and police officers who had been specifically identified by President Rodrigo Duterte as people who are linked to the illegal drugs trade in the country.
Addressing dela Rosa, Montawal said: “Sir, kilala mo ang pagkatao ko. Mag-best friend tayo simula’t simula.”
[Sir, you know who I am. We’ve been best friends ever since.]
As if acknowledging what the vice mayor said, dela Rosa patted him on the back and said: “Kasama ko ito palagi sa shooting… Isang team kami.”
[We’re always together when they have shooting. We’re on the same team.”
However, despite the fact that he is good friends with Montawal, Dela Rosa reiterated what the president said that it is his moral obligation to reveal the names of the alleged “narco-officials” to the public and to thoroughly investigate them.
Montawal said that he will support the president’s campaign and emphasized that he is proud that his best friend is the PNP chief.
