NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M.I.L.F.) from its Eastern Mindanao Front, facilitated the uprooting of full grown marijuana plants in a secluded area at Sitio Sinipitan Barangay Tupig in Carmen town of North Cotabato.
John Unson mentioned in a Philippine Star story that Abdullah Hamsa, the executive director of a civil society organization Tri People Mindanao, was informed by his fellow M.I.L.F. members about the marijuana plantation in the area.
Hamsa, who is also the former 108th Base Commander of the M.I.L.F., said that M.I.L.F. sent a group over the weekend to check the authenticity of the report. Hamsa and his companion discovered the massive two-hectare marijuana plantation with full grown marijuana plants which purportedly appeared ready for harvest.
An article by Lore Mae Andong for ABS-CBN News said that the General Staff of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces immediately instructed M.I.L.F. to uproot the plants.
Members of the M.I.L.F. quickly responded; covering the area which is located in between cornfields and banana trees near the river. The group has also confirmed that the seized uprooted marijuana shrubs have been burned. However, the group wasn’t able to apprehend the owner and have not seen any caretaker in the area.
Even locals tending their own farmlands near the marijuana plantation were also hesitant to reveal any information on the identity of the owner of the marijuana plants.
Hamsa said the M.I.L.F. is already conducting an investigation.
Meanwhile, M.I.L.F. BIAF Spokesperson Von Al-Haq has expressed that the operation was initiated in behalf of the M.I.L.F.’s show of continuous support to the government especially in its war against illegal drugs
