A baby’s first breath was captured on video and went viral.
An unidentified mother thought she would have a normal delivery, but her amniotic sac, the bag of fluid carrying the unborn child, didn’t burst on its own. The doctor had to pierce it with surgical scissors.
After the procedure, the baby got out of the sac, while the doctor removed the fluid on the infant’s face so it could breathe.
The video posted by Jasmine Perez became an instant hit among netizens. It racked up 20 million views in just one week.
Being born with the amniotic sac intact is called “en caul” or “veiled birth.” Based on statistics, ‘en caul’ happens once every 80,000 births.
According to tradition, en caul births are lucky because the baby was protected from witchcraft, sorcery, and demons.
