Hundreds of years ago, women fought for their rights to be equated to men. Women fought for gender equality in hopes that they be treated, respected and looked up to the same way you do to men. However, gender equality suspends the idea of chivalry towards women; Women became empowered that they no longer need men to treat them as inferior damsels who needed the saving.
But with the recent fuss on social media due to a woman shaming a man who was not ‘chivalrous’ and gentleman enough to offer her a seat, the question of gender equality and chivalry was brought up and again left men confuse as to where are they expected to stand in regards the issue.
Karla, the woman who took a picture of a guy who was sitted in front of her while she stood from the North Avenue station to Araneta Cubao station on an MRT ride was ridiculed and bashed on the social media. Many stood up for the man and told her that being a gentleman was a choice and either way she would not have deserved it anyway.
With so many netizens bashing and insulting her as a payback for her harsh comment towards the man, Karla or as the netizens dubbed her ‘Upuan Girl‘ felt sorry for what she did, according to a few sources.
Some claim that before she deactivated she apologized saying she wasn’t expecting the reaction of the people and that she may have probably learned a thing or two with the experience.
