A Chinese tour guide was detained in Kenya for stabbing to death a female tourist, who is also Chinese, and the latter’s husband over an argument in seating arrangement at a lodging house last week.
According to Shanghaiist, Lee Changqin attacked Luo Jinli, 45, and her husband is Dong Ya, 47, with a knife while having dinner at the luxurious Keekorok Lodge at the wildlife park in Maasai Mara in Kenya on Monday evening.
Lee, who is reportedly a tour guide, got into a heated argument with the couple whom he accosted for sitting in his usual place at the lodge.
“He told them that he could not use any other table and they had to leave and when they refused, he started attacking them using a knife that he was carrying,” a police officer told the local media.
The incident was confirmed by the lodging house’s manager, John Kiruti, who disclosed that Lee brought three clients from China for a two-night stay before he had the fatal fight with the couple.
“After a brief exchange of words, he drew a knife and stabbed the two, fatally injuring the woman and injuring her husband,” Kiruti said.
The woman was stabbed twice in her chest in front of her children. She was brought to a nearby treatment center but eventually succumbed to injuries.
Her husband was later flown to a hospital in Nairobi and is said to be in critical condition.
There were reportedly 100 other guests inside the lodging house who watched the stabbing incident in horror.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested and detained at Narok Police Station for further investigation.
