A surprise inspection of bars and nightclubs in Caloocan City was conducted by City Mayor Oscar Malapitan and his team; aiming to make sure that the establishments are following the standard building and labor codes, and that the workers are free from any sexually transmitted diseases.
“Mayor Malapitan’s team was composed of the Bureau of Fire Protection that checked on establishments’ fire escape facilities, the Business Permit and Licensing Office that validated the businesses permit to operate, the Caloocan City Social Welfare Department that verified the workers’ health cards, the Environmental Sanitation Services that inspected the adherence of establishments to basic sanitation requirements, the City Administration Office and the Local Philippine National Police,” according to the Caloocan Public Information Office.
The inspected bars and night clubs were Text Mho Disco and KTV Bar, It’s Hide Away KTV Bar, Raptor’s Entertainment and KTV Bar, Glass Jhemz Entertainment Resto Bar and Rolex Disco and KTV.
“Establishments were found to have ineffective emergency lights and had blocked fire exits. There were also unreliable fire detection and fire-fighting equipment. The BPLO also discovered that the establishments’ declared number of employees did not coincide with the actual number of workers. Some also have expired business permits,” the Caloocan PIO noted.
Furthermore, all mentioned bars and night clubs have failed to meet basic hygiene and sanitation requirements set by ESS, and needing urgent major improvements.
Another chance
The establishments which were found violating the laws were given 15 days to comply with pertinent requirements. If they fail to satisfy the city’s ultimatum, their operations will be shut down immediately.
Meanwhile, the entertainers who do not possess pink cards were invited at CCSWD office for verification. It was explained that pink card is “a permit that certifies a holder of having undergone the pap smear test and cleared of any sexually transmitted diseases.”
Malapitan said that the operation will continue in all areas of the city. He warned the establishments to observe the standard policies to avoid immediate closures.
