MANILA, Philippines – So, true love really does make you wait — just ask Alexander Pieter Cirk.
According to CCTV News, Cirk ended up in the hospital after waiting for a whopping 10 days at the airport for his online girlfriend who never even showed up.
Cirk, a 41-year-old Dutchman, met and fell in love with a 26-year-old woman identified only as “Zhang” two months ago and decided to meet her in person. Unfortunately, her girlfriend was nowhere to meet him when he arrived at the airport of her home province in Hunan, China.
Against all odds however, Cirk patiently waited for her at the airport for several days. However, his girlfriend never showed up. Instead he had to be brought to the hospital as he looked weak and frail from lounging around in the airport for 10 days.
In the end, Cirk flew home after being discharged from the hospital. His story garnered him both ridicule and sympathy from readers.
“He seems pure in heart,” one said.
“Doesn’t he know everything in China is fake?” another asked; referring to the photos of Zhang in his cellphone.
For her part, Zhang claimed she thought Cirk was joking when he said he was flying to meet her.
“We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous toward me,” Zhang said. “One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly, and I thought it was a joke. He didn’t contact me later.”
Zhang also claimed that when Cirk did contact her at the airport, she had her cellphone turned off as she was undergoing plastic surgery.
Despite everything that has happened however, Zhang said she wants to maintain her relationship with Cirk and is still interested in meeting him.
