Filipino boxing icon and neophyte senator Manny Pacquiao confirmed he would come out of retirement and face Jessie Vargas, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, on November 5.
Digital Corner said Pacquiao made the confirmation after meeting with Top Rank CEO and boxing promoter Bob Arum on Tuesday, August 9, at the Shangrila Hotel in Makati City. The boxing champ said the fight would be held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Yes, the fight is on. I have agreed to a November 5 fight with reigning WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas,” Senator Pacquiao, who was with wife Jinkee and adviser Michael Koncz during the meeting, disclosed.
Michael Koncz said on Wednesday, August 10, that a promotional tour for the fight would be held in Las Vegas on September 8 to 10. He said Pacquiao and Arum would meet again later for the contract signing.
Pacquiao said he would immediately return to the country after promoting the fight in Las Vegas to attend to his duty as a senator. He said he will train in the Philippines.
“My entire training camp will be held here in the Philippines so I can attend to my legislative works. This is my campaign promise and I’m determined to keep it,” he said.
