An image of South Korean and North Korean athletes while posing for a selfie goes viral; touching hearts of many people online as they prove them the true meaning of sportsmanship.
In an AFP article that was posted on Rappler, it was disclosed that South Korean gymnast Lee Eun-Ju was photographed while taking a selfie with North Korean competitor Hong Un-Jong in Rio. The snapshot easily went viral on Twitter and has made rounds online.
The photo has been tweeted and shared hundreds of thousands of times. Lee said she was surprised by the extraordinary response to such a simple act.
“I didn’t expect such a huge reaction so I’m still awed by that. I don’t really know about politics, but I don’t think we have a terrible relationship with North Korea,” Lee said in another interview with local media.,” Lee told South Korean broadcaster KBS.
“We mingle and say hello with athletes from other countries, so why can’t we (North and South Koreans) do that?” she asked.
A lot of Twitter users were moved by the photo.

The photo of the two athletes was taken at a time of growing tension between North and South Korea; which technically remain at war since the 1950-53 Korean War concluded without a formal peace treaty.
