MANILA, Philippines – He is glad to be proven wrong.
Gabriel Valenciano, the US-based artist known to be a critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, has changed his mind and is now supporting the country’s tough-talking leader.
While Valenciano admitted while he cannot see eye-to-eye with Duterte regarding some issues, he also said that the country should respect and support him.
“I believe that opposition is a doorway to growth, di ba? Kasi kung wala namang kumukontra sa ‘yo [If there is no one who is opposing you], that just means na you’re not doing something right,” he told PEP. “So, with Duterte, he is the current president. I respect him and everything that he’s been doing. Maski na [Although] there are some things na I’m not for, it doesn’t matter, e. Kasi [Because], at the end of the day, he’s our leader and we have to respect him.”
Valenciano added that he has been impressed with what Duterte has done in a month and said he is looking forward to what the president will do next. He added his misgivings about Duterte were proven wrong.
“And so, with everything that he’s been doing so far, I’m very, very happy. I’m very impressed,” he said. “And I cannot wait to see what else he’s about to do kasi one month pa lang naman siya, e [because he’s still just president for one month]. One month pa lang siya [He’s only been president for one month] and he already has done so much, so I’m glad that he’s proven me wrong.”
