The mother’s love is the greatest love of all. These words are reflected in a video that emerged online showing a mother rat putting her life on the line to fight off a huge snake and recover one of her babies from the reptile’s mouth.
Kara O’Neill mentioned in her article for Mirror Co UK that the video started showing the rodent watching a huge snake slithering away after snatching one of her babies.
When suddenly, armed with maternal instinct, the rat continually took bites out of the snake’s tail, in an attempt to get the reptile to stop in its tracks and drop her baby.
After numerous tries, the huge snake released the motionless baby rat from its jaws and quickly slithered away into the bushes.
An article by Valerie Edwards for Mail Online said that even the snake let go of the baby rat, the mother rat didn’t give up her chase and continued to pursue the reptile, as if making sure the snake won’t be returning back to snatch the baby for the second time.
Before the end of the video, the mother rat returned to the roadside while the baby rat managed to take a few tentative steps. She then picked up the small rat using her jaws and carried the animal to safety.
The video clip was posted by Rojas Montecinos Envy, with the caption: “Today, while I was returning home, I witnessed this amazing act of love from a mother.”
Online users lauded the courage of the mother rat to get back her baby, even putting her own life on the line.
“Just show how far a mother would go for her child… that she’d even fight death,” said YouTube user Molebbie.
