- PNP chief touted the killing of a big-time drug pusher in Valenzuela
- He said this is proof they are also going after the big fish and not only the small-timers
- He also told the public to expect more deaths in the coming days
MANILA, Philippines – Commenting on the death of suspected big-time drug lord Meco Tan in Valenzuela, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said he hopes it would dispel criticism that the police were only going after the small-timers.
“Tama ‘yung palagi tayong kini-criticize na kung mamamatay ba ‘yung street pushers lang daw. Ngayon ito na, nakita ninyo, malaking drug lord—patay rin, ‘di ba?” he told GMA News.
[It’s right because we are always being criticized that it’s only the street pushers who are dying. Now, you see a big-time drug lord, he’s also dead, right?]
Dela Rosa also told the public to expect more deaths in the coming days as they intensify their drug campaign.
“Huwag kayong magmadali at marami pa tayong mapapatay diyan na high-value target. Hintayin lang ninyo,” he said.
[Don’t be in a hurry because we will kill more high-value targets. Just wait for it.]
Tan, a Chinese national and suspected owner of a shabu laboratory in Valenzuela, was killed after trying to shoot it out with operatives trying to serve a search warrant on him.
“Nang sumibat, hinabol ng ating kapulisan, at pinutukan niya ‘yung mga pulis nating humahabol. In fact, may tama yung windshield ng highway patrol car. May tama. So, pinutukan siya hanggang namatay,” Dela Rosa said.
[When he tried to flee, our police went after him, and he shot at them. In fact, our highway patrol car was hit in the windshield. So they also fired at him until he was killed.]
Aside from Tan, one other suspected big-time drug lord has been killed in the ongoing drug campaign—Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz.
