Public domain image - A Filipino businessman and a veterinarian make it to Forbes’ Heroes of Philanthropy list

- Two big-time Chinese business owners are also among Forbes’ prestigious list
Filipino businessman Geronimo de Los Reyes Jr and veterinarian Anton Mari Lim made it to Forbes Asia’s prestigious Heroes of Philanthropy list for 2016.
De Los Reyes, who owns the Gateway Business Park in Cavite, was lauded for his scholarship programs and funding support for faculty development and research.
The 80-year-old businessman’s GBR Foundation also mounted a museum that features photographs of Manila and the Philippines that date back to the 19th and 20th centuries.
Meanwhile Lim was cited for his Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation that was launched in 2010 to provide boats for children in Layag-Layag in Zamboanga City who goes to school by swimming.
Lim has been able to donate a total of 1,045 boats, 5 schools and 2 dormitories for the benefit of more than 11,000 children.
Aside from these two Filipinos, other Asian men who also made it to the annual list are Wang Jianlin of Wanda Group and Pony Ma of Tencent Holdings.
Wang donated $ 150 million for job creation to alleviate poverty in Guizhou Province in China. Ma, on the other hand, pledged $ 2.3 billion worth of his shares for the Tencent Foundation.
“The list not only features philanthropists who have made the news with their donations in the past year, but also recognizes people who have compiled a long record of supporting worthy causes,” Forbes Asia said.
This year, Forbes has listed a total of 40 “notable givers” from 13 countries.
