Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurzbach defended ‘FHM Sexiest Woman’ for this year, Jessy Mendiola after the latter got bashed over her ‘Talo ko pa si Pia’ statement.

On her Twitter account, the beauty queen wrote: “What I saw was a girl who was just really ecstatic to be given that recognition. Nothing wrong with that. Congratulations, Jessy!”
Mendiola came under fire from bashers when a video of her acceptance speech during the victory party of FHM Philippines on July 26, at the Valkyrie on Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, became viral.
She told the crowd: “I think that’s what people like about me. I have a different type of body from the usual sexy and I am here to prove that I can be sexy too and that’s where my strength is coming from.
Talo ko pa si Pia Wurtzbach, ‘di ba? Nakakaloka iyong ganito. Sobrang overwhelming (I even defeated Pia Wurtzbach, right? This is crazy. It’s very overwhelming. Kung siya (If she’s) confidently beautiful with a heart, ako (I’m) sexy. So, confidently sexy with a heart.”
Wurtzbach came in the 16th place in the online poll conducted by FHM Philippines.
“I’m just really happy na nadito ako (that I’m here) tonight. It feels unreal but thank you so much. It feels so nice to be called the “Sexiest Woman in the Philippines. Thank you,” Mendiola concluded her statement.
Some people commented that Mendiola was being overconfident and felt that the Kapamilya actress belittled Wurtzbach in her statement.
Others also defended Mendiola, pointing out that she meant no offense in her ‘Talo ko pa si Pia Wurztbach’ statement and it was obviously a joke.
