CEBU CITY, Philippines – The PNP’s Oplan Tokhang netted a famous surrenderee on Tuesday, July 12 after singer and Pinoy Dream Academy runner-up Jay-R Siaboc turned himself in to local authorities.
According to Toledo City Police Office (TCPO) acting police chief Supt. Samuel Mina Jr., Siaboc was one of the 528 drug suspects who showed up at the precinct. He was with his wife and cousin when he turned himself in.
During tactical interrogation, Siaboc confessed to using drugs but denied he was selling them. He said his friends living in Barangay Awihao were the source of illegal drugs in the vicinity.
“He confessed that he’s been using drugs but not a peddler,” Mina told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Mina added that Siaboc promised to stop dabbling in illegal drugs and agreed to be monitored by the police.
PO2 Joselito Genon also told Siaboc he should undergo rehabilitation if he was really bent on changing his ways.
“Like other surrenderees, Jay-R fears for his life and that he wanted to be changed man. He should undergo rehab,” he said.
Siaboc was the runner-up behind Yeng Constantino in the 2006 edition of the popular reality talent search contest. He is widely known for his song “Kada Uli Hilot”.
According to Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, some 25,219 self-admitted drug users and 3,013 drug pushers have turned themselves in to the authorities after Oplan Tokhang was implemented on July 1.
The operation aims to warn both drug users and pushers to quit the drug trade if they don’t want law enforcers to apprehend them.
