A Nigerian national believed to be a member of the West African drug syndicate operating in the country was nabbed by authorities in Marikina on Tuesday night, July 12.
The suspect, identified as Ejiye Okoye who went by the alias Martin was entrapped by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during a buy-bust operation at a bar in Marikina.
PDEA Central Luzon director Emerson Margate said undercover agents were able to secure a deal to buy 300 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) for P360,000 and agreed to meet inside a bar along Don Juan Sumulong Highway in Barangay Sto. Nino, Marikina.
“PDEA-3 agents were able to secure a drug deal from Okoye for the purchase of 300 grams of shabu for P360,000.00 and agreed to meet inside a resto bar in Marikina City where he was collared by our operatives,” the Manila Bulletin quoted the PDEA official as saying.
Margate said PDEA agents confiscated the illegal substance packed in six medium-sized re-sealable transparent plastic sachets with an estimated street value of P1,050,000. The marked money used in the buy-bust operation was also recovered.
Okoye has been living in the country for two years and is working as a football coach. Margate said the suspect used coaching as a cover for his illegal activities.
Okoye was brought to the PDEA Jail Facility in Camp Olivas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga for further investigation.
