MANILA, Philippines – The Manila police has finally revealed the name of the primary suspect in the road rage shooting incident in Quiapo on Monday night, July 25, which ended in the killing of 35-year-old cyclist Mark Vincent Geralde.
In a post on the Facebook page of state-owned PTV, the main suspect has been identified as Vhon Tanto, a 39-year-old Army reservist. He is said to be also working in a motorcycle repair shop, according to Sr. Insp. Rommel Anicete, chief of Manila Police District Homicide Division.
PTV likewise shared pictures of the man wearing a military uniform. One photo showed Tanto standing beside a red Hyundai Eon; the same vehicle shown in the copy of the CCTV footage of the killing.
Confusion on the identity of the killer arose after several websites posted a picture of an identical red Hyundai Eon traced to a Facebook user named Nestor Punzalan.
However, Punzalan immediately went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday to deny that the car in the CCTV was his. It turned out that the conduction sticker/plate earlier reported was erroneous.
Authorities clarified that the conduction sticker/plate of the car on the CCTV was MO3745, while Punzalan’s was MO37346 – the number of the car mistaken for shooter and whose photo was widely-circulated on social media.

According to Manila Police District (MPD) director Chief Supt. Joel Coronel, they received information that Tanto, who remains at-large, is willing to turn himself in and explain his side.
The police official added some witnesses have also come forward to give their testimony regarding the incident.
If proven guilty the suspect could face murder and frustrated homicide charges for the killing of Geralde and for hurting a bystander who was hit by a stray bullet.
Geralde and the driver of the Hyundai Eon engaged in a heated argument and came to blows over a minor traffic altercation along P. Pascal St. in Brgy. 385, Quiapo around 9:30 pm.
The driver ended up shooting Geralde point-blank in the face and pumping more bullets even as the victim was already slumped down on the pavement.
Geralde sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and the body and reportedly died on the spot.
