PERTH, Australia – Police officials in Australia are investigating on how a man’s body was left unnoticed for nearly three days in a fast-food’s toilet.
The Guardian mentioned in an article that police officials were called in after a dead body was discovered in a locked toilet cubicle at a Hungry Jack’s restaurant in Balga, in the north of Perth, on Monday morning.
Initial investigation revealed that the man had entered the toilet on Friday night. For some reason, the man died on Friday and had been there ever since.
Officials said that since the body was left undiscovered until Monday morning, it would indicate that the cubicle wasn’t checked or cleaned on Friday evening, all of the Saturday when the store was open for 24 hours, and Sunday before they close at 10pm.
The store manager did not comment on the incident, as Hungry Jack also refused to answer questions about cleaning arrangements at the restaurant.
Instead, the restaurant released a statement through the PR agency stating that they are cooperating with the authorities regarding the matter.
“Our thoughts are with all concerned,” the statement said.
An article by Courtney Bembridge for ABC News said that customers at the restaurants expressed concern about hygiene standards at the fast food facility.
“It’s unfortunate, and you have to worry about the QA [quality assurance] and how often they check their facilities,” said Felix Davis; a regular customer.
“Three days is a pretty long time, poor guy,” Davis added.
Officials said the man’s death doesn’t seem suspicious and was probably caused by a drug overdose.
Meanwhile, Stirling City council health compliance officers were also on the site to investigate the death to make sure there was no public risk. The health officers are looking very carefully at whether health or sanitary issues are needed to be addressed.
