- Muntinlupa PIO denied president visited them to clear out their city’s traffic
- He said they could only wish he would’ve visited them for real though
- Muntinlupa’s LGU did confirm conducting a clearing-out operation
MANILA, Philippines – He’s not doing his famous taxi rounds—at least not yet anyway.
Responding to a viral post claiming President Rodrigo Duterte went around Muntinlupa in secret to decongest the city’s heavy traffic, a city official said they could only wish he really visited them.
“It is not true,” Public Information Officer Tez Navarro told GMA News. “How we wish he will visit. We will be honored to have the president in Muntinlupa.”
Pro-Duterte social media sites earlier claimed Duterte went around Muntinlupa in a motorcycle to assess the traffic situation. It also said he ordered Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi to immediately relocate the vendors from the streets to the market area.
“Digong told Fresnedi he wanted all the vendors out of the streets and inside the market selling area. The last 2 days, no traffic and extremely peaceful to walk around the market area. People didn’t complain,” the viral post read.
On its Facebook page, the city’s LGU did confirm conducting a massive clearing-out operation along Alabang Viaduct over the weekend. The operation was done together with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
“Inatasan ang Task Force Clearing Operation ng Muntinlupa na magsagawa nang malawakang paglilinis ng mga bangketa (sidewalk-vendors), paglilinis ng Alabang Viaduct, at panghuhuli ng mga traysikel sa Alabang at karatig barangays ng Muntinlupa,” read the post.

Fresnedi was not around during the operation as he participated in the World Cities Summit in Singapore.
Duterte, famous for going around Davao City in his big bike or as an incognito taxi driver when he was still mayor, earlier warned local officials heads will roll if they fail to clean up their cities.
