Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas belied nasty rumors that former child actor Jiro Manio had passed away.
Delas Alas, who played Manio’s onscreen mother in the iconic Tanging Ina comedy movie in the 2000s, had taken the responsibility of looking after Manio after he was found distraught and loitering around the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in 2015.
The actress also attempted to bridge Manio with his family in Japan and eventually was the one to send him to a rehabilitation center where he is currently being treated.
Reacting to press inquiry about the child actor’s rumored death, she shared on her official Instagram account a phone call with Manio.
“Nag-text ang press sa akin kahapon tinatanong about Jiro. Nabalita yata na patay or whatever… Para sa kaalaman ng lahat, BUHAY NA BUHAY PO SI JIRO… Share ko lang ang conversation namin ngayong umaga. Okay siya, ALIVE NA ALIVE! [The press texted me yesterday about the Jiro. They heard news that he was dead or whatever. But for everyone’s information, Jiro is definitely alive],” she wrote.
In the conversation the former award-winning child actor gave updates about his life and thanked his onscreen mother.
“Maraming salamat po. Mag-ingat po kayo lagi. Pumupunta nga po pala dito sila daddy. Dinadalaw po ako. Pinapakain rin ako. [Thank you very much. Take care always. Daddy comes here. They visit me. They also feed me],” he can be heard in the video.
Delas Alas further explained Manio’s current condition.
“Okay siya. Nasa loob siya ng rehab sa malayong lugar. [He’s okay. He is inside rehab in a faraway place.] Don’t worry. He’s okay. May lagnat lang daw noong isang araw but he’s okay now sabi ng doktora. [He just had a fever the other day but he’s now okay according to the doctor],” she told GMA News.
In the wake of this recent development, she also urged the public not to spread false information and rumors and to make proper use of social media.
