- A SWAT member in Cebu was arrested after being caught using illegal drugs
- The arrested officer was caught during a buy-bust operation in Toledo City
- He was already in the watch list of police officers involved in the illegal drug trade
A member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team in Ceb caught using illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation conducted in Toledo City over the weekend was in the watch list of police officers who are involved in the illegal drug trade.
SWAT member PO2 Ronjie Nadora from Bogo City was arrested in the house of a man identified as Neil Enriquez in Sitio Harag, Barangay Talavera, Both men were taken into police custody.
According to Cebu Provincial Police Director Senior Superintendent Clifford Gairanod, they have received tips that Nadora was not just a drug user but also a protector of drug syndicates operating in the province.
Gairanod told ABS-CBN News that Enriquez was actually wearing a SWAT uniform with Nadora’s name at the time of his arrest. Two other men named Richard Flores and Nanding Abella, were caught using drugs together with Enriquez and Nadora.
Meanwhile, Nadora’s immediate superior Bogo Police Station chief Supt. Richard Oliver said that the arrested officer was actually just less than two weeks into his new post in Bogo but had already shown indications of drug use that affected his performance.
In fact, Oliver had already requested that Nadora be transferred to another unit after a background check revealed unsatisfactory performance in his previous posting.
“Sa akong assessment naklaro na sa iyahang lihok ug expressions nga manggamitay gud siya. [In my asseseement it was clear in his actions and expressions that he was a user]… It’s good that this happened because it will serve as a warning that we will not tolerate this kind of act especially with our intense anti-illegal drugs campaign,” Oliver told SunStar.
The arrested officer will automatically be the subject of an administrative inquiry that would likely lead to his dismissal from the service due to grave misconduct.
He, together with the other men arrested, will be charged under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
However, the Cebu provincial police chief warned that they are currently monitoring other police officers in their watch list.
