A century-old theater was converted into a bookstore and is now a tourist attraction in Barrio Norte, Buenos Aires.
In an article written by Ruta Grasyte of Bored Panda, it was disclosed that the 100-year-old Grand Splendid Theater was later converted into a cinema and was eventually turned into a beautiful bookshop, which is now called El Ateneo Grand Splendid.
The stunning building was originally designed by architects Peró and Torres Armengol; then converted into a bookshop by architect Fernando Manzone who retained many parts of the theater, including the stage, the balconies, the incredible architectural details and even the red curtains. In 2008 El Ateneo Grand Splendid was named the second most beautiful bookshop in the world by The Guardian.
The bookstore currently welcomes over one million visitors every year. It is also receiving a lot of good comments from social media users.
“Each and every time I’m visiting Baires, be it for a day and a half, I go and pay a visit to my favorite bookshop, have a cup of coffee there and buy present for myself and my friend/s,” said Facebook user G.V.
“That’s unbelievable! This is the most beautiful bookstore in Buenos Aires!” commented S.Y.
“This opera house has been converted into a bookstore. Definitely my new favorite place to buy books,” wrote H.W.
