The film Honor Thy Father received another international award.
In an article written by Aya Tantiangco and ALG of GMA News Online, it was disclosed that a few days after the movie’s lead actor John Lloyd Cruz received the Star Asia Award at the 15th New York Asian Film Festival, Erik Matti announced that Honor Thy Father got another international recognition.
On Instagram, Matti posted a photo of Cruz and announced the award for Best Asian Film during the 2016 Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF), which was held in Switzerland.
Honor Thy Father is a 2015 Filipino crime, thriller, drama film which was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is about a family who found themselves in a Ponzi scheme; a fraudulent investment operation.
In the movie, Edgar, the role played by Cruz, and Kaye, the character portrayed by Meryll Soriano, seek to pay their family’s debt to Kaye’s co-parishioners; fearing that these people might hurt their daughter.
Meanwhile, Honor Thy Father is not the only Filipino film which got an award in the NIFFF. To note, since NIFFF was established in 2000, this is the second time that the Philippines took home the prize in this category. The first one was in 2012, when Jade Castro’s “Remington and the Curse of the Zombadings” won.
