Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrator Hans Leo Cacdac warned Filipinos planning to work overseas as household service workers to be vigilant against unscrupulous individuals illegally recruiting workers for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Cacdac said the recruiters are allegedly promising their victims jobs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as domestic workers, an article published by GMA News Online disclosed.
“Mag-ingat po sa naglipana na illegal recruiter ng kasambahay para sa UAE: Abu Dhabi o Dubai,” Cacdac’s tweet reads.
[Beware of those individuals who illegally recruit domestic helpers bound for UAE.]
The recent warning was issued by Cacdac following an incident when two OFWs hired as domestic helpers in Dubai were offloaded at the Clark International Airport after being found to be illegally recruited.
Aside from this, the POEA administrator also related two more incidents involving Filipino maids, who were deployed overseas by exiting in Tawi-Tawi and passing through Sabah and Malaysia, were recently repatriated from Abu Dhabi after being subjected to abuses by their employers.
As such, Cacdac appealed to the public especially those who seek employment abroad to be vigilant against illegal recruitment activities in their communities.
“Paki-report lang po ang anumang sinasagawa na illegal recruitment o human trafficking,” he was quote saying.
[Kindly report any illegal recruitment or human trafficking being conducted.]
As noted by the POEA chief, their agency have already alerted other member-agencies of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), such as the Bureau of Immigration, Department of Justice, Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Manila International Airport Authority.
Meanwhile, Cacdac invites through a tweet those planning to seek work overseas to log in to their website: “Payong POEA … Sukob na! Log on po tayo sa online PEOS o Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar para sa nag-iisip-isip”.
