- Mayor offered P100k reward for suspect in road rage killing
- He vowed justice for the suspect’s two victims — a cyclist and a city scholar
- He directed the police to immediately capture the suspect and bring him to justice
MANILA, Philippines – Have you seen Vhon Tanto? He’s worth P100,000 now.
Even as authorities have discovered his getaway vehicle in Nueva Vizcaya, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada put up a P100,000-bounty on his head to speed up his capture.
Estrada also condoled with the victims of Tanto’s road rage — Mark Vincent Garalde and student Rocel Bondoc.
“I have directed the MPD to see to it that the culprit is captured and brought to court to face charges. To the family of Mr. Geralde, our condolence. I assure you that justice will be given,” ABS-CBN quoted him as saying.
The mayor also promised to extend assistance to Bondoc; an orphan and city scholar studying at the Universidad de Manila.
“Rocel is one of our city scholars, a bright student and has a very bright future ahead. It pains me to see her in the hospital, wounded,” he said.
Bondoc is currently recuperating at a hospital after being shot in the spinal cord.
A CCTV recorded Tanto shooting Garalde point-blank five times after the two fought beside the road in Quiapo, Manila Monday night. In the process, he also hit Bondoc.
According to the latest report, Tanto left his vehicle — a red Hyundai Eon — at his brother-in-law Jonathan Leaño’s house in Nueva Vizcaya.
Authorities are verifying Leaño’s claim that Tanto boarded a Sampaloc-Cubao-bound Florida bus via the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway along with his wife and child.
Tanto, an army reservist, has been identified as the shooter who killed Garalde. Police described him as “armed and dangerous” and vowed to catch him “dead or alive”.
