- Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said she won’t be resigning as Davao City Mayor
- She was amused reading the comments of the people over her rumored resignation
- She confirmed that she will be attending her father’s first SONA on July 25
DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, popularly called Inday Sara by the Davaoeños, clarified the rumors that she’ll be resigning as Davao City mayor and focus on being the First Lady of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
As seen on the video uploaded on Youtube by Davao Today, Inday Sara spoke to the reporters outside the Davao Convention and Trade Center on Friday, July 22, and she emphasized that there’s no truth to all those rumors and she won’t be resigning from her position.
The 38-year-old politician said: “There wasn’t any truth to it, and wala na lang pud nako siya gibawi (I didn’t take it back). Ganahan lang man pud ko nagbasa sa Facebook sa mga komento sang mga tao, sa mga haters ug sa mga fans. (I was amused reading the comments of the people, of both haters and fans on Facebook).
She confirmed that she will be attending her father’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25.
Even before her father was elected as president, Inday Sara said that she has no intention to become his First Lady.
ABS-CBN News quoted her as saying: “Wala akong plano na maging First Lady. Siyempre, pag nagsabi sila na tutulong, tutulong ako. Kung magiging mayor ako ng Davao sa 2016, gusto konakatutok ako sa trabaho. Mahihirapan ako gumalaw.”
[I don’t have any plan to become the First Lady. Of course, if they’ll tell me to help, I will help. If I get elected as Davao City mayor this 2016, I want to focus on my job. I will have a hard time doing so if I become the First Lady.]
President Duterte, who said earlier that he wanted his daughter to become his First Lady, later said it would be better not to have one at all.
“You know, it’s better not to have a first lady at all. I am separated from my first wife, I have a second wife. Just to avoid, you know you can spin a lot of [stories], weave a lot of things there. Baka wala, ‘di na ako mag-first lady (Maybe I won’t have a First Lady),” he said.
